Creating and Sending a Newsletter

Step 1: Create a Newsletter

You will need to create a new html newsletter - Click Here or use the link in the left menu. The system will automatically generate the page layout, date, title, and the header and footer.

For newsletter content you have the ability to use advanced formatting options, which include lists, colors, font size, linking, and inserting images. Be careful to not over-style as the results may get a bit messy. A few suggestions:

1) When copying and pasting from another program, use the "paste" button in order to not copy formatting options from other programs. This is particularly important with Microsoft Word.
2) Use the image button to upload and insert a new image. You'll need to browse and upload the image first. Then click on 'add' to change settings and insert the image. You can always select an image you inserted and click the image button again to change settings. And don't forget you can link an image.
3) Lastly, if things just aren't looking right, you can select 'disable rich-text' beneath the text area box and try to clean up the html directly.

Step 2: Import Your Most Recent Addressed

Campaign Monitor Keeps a Master List of your email recipients. You can always re-import your most recent list from your address book. CM will merge the list and eliminate duplicates as well as keep the settings fr individuals who have unsubscribed.

Note: You do not need to create a new list. Simply add the most recent Address Book Group Export to the current list.

To export your most recent Group from Address Book and import and merge it with the existing list, follow these instructions:

Step 3: Create a New Campaign in Campaign Monitor

Login to Campaign Monitor:

http://campaignmonitor.com

Follow the instructions to create a new campaign. It may be helpful to read this page about avoiding your email ending up in spam filters:

You'll want to select an "HTML and plain text" campaign. And you'll need to enter the url of the newsletter you created. MAKE SURE you check the box "add inline styles".

Step 4: Test and Send the Campaign

Preview your campaign, and then add a plain text from your campaign for people who don't allow html emails. You'll then be able to choose which list to send to.

TEST TEST TEST. You have a couple options for testing. You can just send this round to the test list (less than 5 is free to send), which means you'll have to come back and edit the campaign to send to the full list. OR you can select your primary list and test from the next pag. Either way make sure the email looks good and is correct before you send it to the main list.

Next you'll want to choose when you want to send. Here's a link to help you decide:

Step 5: Check you Campaign's Statistics and Results

Remember you need to check back in after you send to see the statistics and results of your campaign. You can check back as much as you want as the results will continue to change every day. And as you send newsletters you'll start to learn when and how to send so that you receive maximum response.
