With the TV news telling us of pandemic diseases, tremendous violence,
and environmental disasters, it’s easy to despair that the end of the world is
near. It might be.
But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I look forward to the demise of big
box stores, labyrinthine highway systems and endless suburban sprawl. I
don’t think of that as a dystopian future. I see it as a kind of utopia, where
we can start from scratch.
