"Relative Picnic"
PDX Contemporary Art
A taxidermied jackrabbit sprouts golden horns, which morph into garish plastic machine guns—this is Peter Gronquist’s delightfully ridiculous wall sculpture, Nouveau Americana. It’s a standout in a strong group show entitled Relative Picnic. Subtler but no less mesmerizing is Greg Misarti’s Focus Orbs, a Light-A-Scope Exploration. In this video installation, incongruously framed in a rough-hewn wooden frame, several orbs of light recede, shimmer and blink in front of a moody, lavender-blue skyscape. The piece is simultaneously hushed and kinetic, which is to say, downright enthralling. 925 NW Flanders St., 222-0063. Closes Aug. 28.
