Victoria Haven is an artist-in-residence at the Rauschenberg Residency on Captiva Island, Florida. Congratulations, Victoria!
About the Residency: The Rauschenberg Residency is inspired by Rauschenberg's early years at Black Mountain College where an artistic community brought out elements central to his art, collaboration, and exploration. The residency advances new work, extends practices into new mediums, and serves as a research and development lab for performance-based projects. It fosters the ideal that artistic practice advances mutual understanding and engenders a focus on the conservation of a sensitive and pristine environment and integration with the local surroundings. Events designed to connect the local and regional community with the artists in residence may include an open studio of works in progress, outreaches by residents, and on-site activities/tours held in partnership with schools and arts and environmental organizations.
The harmonious juxtaposition of natural landscape, modern and adaptable studios, and idyllic housing provides a perfect backdrop for the artistic process. The spirit of Robert Rauschenberg is everywhere.

Read morePDX CONTEMPORARY ART is pleased to present the paintings of Portland-based artist Tristan “TK” Irving in the PDX Window Project for the month of February 2021.
Drawing inspiration from a range of sources and time periods, from Rembrandt to Jean-Michel Basquiat, Irving’s work integrates abstraction and modernist sensibilities to create portraits which are bold, graphic, and colorful. Each portrait, oftentimes depicting famous artists or public figures, acts to honor and commemorate. Those he’s painted include Frederick Douglass, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Frida Kahlo, Maya Angelou, Madam C.J. Walker, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, and Stacey Abrams, among others. Irving is best known for his portraits of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, which have been carried at protests and marches for racial justice this summer.
As part of the PDX Window Project, Irving will be offering 20” x 16” commissioned portraits for $500 each. If clients wish to commission a piece, they can email info@pdxcontemporaryart.com for more details. The artist will work from a photograph of the client’s choosing.
The PDX Window Project is viewable from the sidewalk 24 hours, 7 days a week, on the corner of NW 9th and Flanders. The window itself is on 9th avenue.
Irving's work in the PDX Window Project was featured in The Skanner: https://www.theskanner.com/news/newsbriefs/30956-pdx-window-project-feat...

Heather Watkins: Blindspots and Throughlines Artist Talk
THURSDAY, MAY 11 | 6:00 PM
RSVP : https://www.eventbrite.com/e/heather-watkins-blindspots-and-throughlines...
Since the beginning of Fall 2022, Heather Watkins has participated in a year-long residency at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at PSU, working with faculty and students in two Freshman Inquiry learning communities. Through workshops, guest lectures, studio visits, and other creative pedagogies, Watkins collaborated with students to create new avenues for understanding and experiencing Watkins’ two public artworks, located on the PSU campus: Score (2014), Lincoln Performance Hall; and Soundings: Opening, Fathoming, Grounding, Searching, Returning (2020), Vanport Building. In this artist talk, Watkins will deliver an overview of this initiative in community-engaged learning that has allowed her to reanimate previous artworks with special attention to artistic process and modes of interpretation. She will also talk about her role in the inaugural curricular exhibition Beautiful Questions, which is currently on view in the Broadway Gallery in Lincoln Hall. Finally, Watkins will discuss the development of a publication (which she received a RACC Arts3C grant to produce) that will encapsulate and archive this exciting and multifaceted project.
Lecture will be held in Lincoln Hall, RM 225. This program is free and open to the public. ASL interpreting will be provided.*
